Printing

Printing has gone a long way since the days of the good old woodblock printing or the more popular, offset printing. With the advent of newer printing technologies, gone are the days when only those who had the resources equal to that of the church can afford having their design or book printed. Now, almost anybody can and should be able to have what they need printed no matter the size, design, or volume.

General Printing Choices

Unusual it may seem however, even at this day of high technology, the original printing press that was invented a long way back in 1454 can still be seen in the printing industry and this is part of what we now call traditional printing together with other non-digital printing technologies such as lithography, letterpress, gravure, and flexography among others. Digital printing on the other hand should be something more people can related to compared to any form of traditional printing wherein only those in the printing press industry are said to be in direct contact with them. We're talking about your home and office laser and inkjet printers here and pretty sure most of us have encountered one already.

Traditional Printing or Digital Printing?

Given the choices, most of our new clients often face the question of choosing the appropriate printing technology to use for their needs. To make things easier, here's a quick rundown on the major differences between traditional printing and digital printing.

Cost - Traditional printing usually cost around twice as much and is usually for volume (1,000s) printing jobs to make it cost efficient. Digital printing is more for print on demand (POD).

Timescale - Digital printing can be done within hours while traditional printing takes a lot longer because of the set-up needed and whatnot.

Material and output - Traditional printing wins this category since it can literally print on any material, any shape, and any finish (emboss for example) compared to the limited printing surface, design, and finish of its digital counterpart.
